De Gea: I m not disappointed with the way I left Manchester United, I ve had 12 very good times
De Gea returned to Old Trafford and said he had no regrets about leaving Manchester United.
De Gea returned to Old Trafford for the first time two years after leaving Manchester United. Although he was expected to renew his contract with the team in 2023, he eventually left the team as a free agent. De Gea spent 12 years of brilliant time at Manchester United, during which he was named Player of the Year four times. In a pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday, he said he had no dissatisfaction with the way he left.
When asked if you were disappointed with the way you left, De Gea said: "No. Sometimes football is like this, you can't control everything. I've had a really good 12 years at Manchester United, one of the best times in my life. It's an incredible experience to play for this club, and when you leave you realize how great this team is and how difficult it is to be at Manchester United for 12 years. I'm eternally grateful to this club and everyone, it's a wonderful journey."
De Gea had no club after leaving Manchester United until he joined Fiorentina as a free agent in 2024. He made 35 appearances in Serie A last season and signed a new three-year contract in May this year. The 34-year-old goalkeeper said he was happy in Italy, but admitted that he had considered retirement after leaving Manchester United.
"There is indeed such a thought that flashes through my mind, but I feel good, start training again, ready to go again, Fiorentina gives me the chance to play, I feel really good there. It's like a big family, the city is great, and the club is great. Today you can see us playing against top teams like Manchester United, and hopefully we can achieve some special results this year, too."
