UMC’s third-quarter EPS reaches 1.2 yuan, and wafer shipments will remain flat in the fourth quarter

UMC, a major wafer foundry, announced its operating report for the third quarter of 2025, with consolidated revenue of NT$59.13 billion, an increase of 0.6% from the previous quarter’s NT$58.76 billion. Consolidated revenue for the quarter decreased 2.2% compared to the same period in 2025. In the third quarter of 2025, the gross profit margin reached 29.8%, the net profit attributable to the parent company was NT$14.98 billion, and the EPS of ordinary shares was NT$1.20.

Wang Shi, co-general manager of UMC, said that in the third quarter, we observed increased demand in most market sectors, driving wafer shipments to grow by 3.4% and capacity utilization to 78%. Among them, benefiting from the recovery in sales of smartphones and notebook computers, customers have been driven to replenish orders. In addition, our 22nm technology platform continues to demonstrate differentiated advantages in the market, and 22nm revenue currently accounts for more than 10% of overall sales. It is expected that more than 50 product designs will be finalized (tape-outs) in 2025, and the revenue contribution of 22nm is expected to continue to increase in 2026.

Wang Shi emphasized that in accordance with the strategy of providing customers with highly differentiated special processes, UMC recently announced that the 55nm BCD platform is ready. In addition to mobile and consumer applications, this new platform complies with the most stringent automotive standards and can be widely used in automotive and industrial fields. Looking forward, UMC expects that its wafer shipments in the fourth quarter will be the same as in the third quarter, and that its full-year shipments in 2025 will reach low double-digit (low teens) growth. UMC will continue to provide competitive process technologies in the future to meet the needs of diversified market applications and expects to benefit from a comprehensive market recovery. In particular, our 22nm logic and special process platforms will become the main driving force for future growth.

Wang Shi further pointed out that UMC has always been an industry pioneer in climate action and is also the world's first wafer foundry to commit to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. To demonstrate our commitment to the environment, UMC once again led the industry by taking the lead in passing the carbon reduction target review under the most stringent climate standards of the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi). In addition to actively implementing carbon reduction measures in our own operating plants, we are also working with our partners to reduce the carbon footprint of the upstream and downstream supply chains, and jointly move towards the 2050 net zero goal.
