Rubin postponed to fight against MI450NVIDIA denies, AMD is still excited

NVIDIA (Nvidia Corp.) stock price rebounded on Wednesday (August 13) due to the market's possible delay in launching the next-generation picture processor (GPU) platform "Rubin" to fight against greater challenges brought by Ultramicro (AMD).

According to reports from Barron’s, Seeking Alpha, Fubon Research analyst Sherman Shanghai published a research report pointing out that although the first version of Rubin completed the first tape out of chip (tape out, which means the end of the design stage and is ready for hand-made production) at the end of June, NVIDIA is now beginning to redesign the chip to better compete with the "MI450" that Ultramicro (AMD) will release next.

Shang also said that although the market generally predicts that Rubin chips are expected to start mass production in the third quarter of 2026, the supply chain survey shows that 2026 is "limited production" because NVIDIA hopes to increase the performance of this GPU, which will challenge the production line.

Shang predicts that the next time of slitting should fall at the end of September or October, and based on this timetable, Rubin production in 2026 should be limited.

Nomad Semi analyst Moore Morris pointed out on the 13th through social platform X that according to the report from Fubon Investment, Taiwan's CoWoS production in 2027 will be able to watch 130,000 films. The report shows that the production of NVIDIA's contemporary Blackwell GPUs in the first, second, third and fourth quarters of 2025 will be 750,000, 1.2 million, 1.5 million and 1.6 million respectively.

Morris also quoted Fubon Investment's report, pointing out that AMD and Broadcom are the fastest growing CoWoS customers in Taiwan, among which AMD will introduce CoWoS technology to GPUs and CPUs in 2026, while Broadcom will benefit from the production process of multiple projects.

However, an NVIDIA spokesperson posted an email to state that the above report was wrong and Rubin will ask the death as scheduled.

NVIDIA fell 0.83% on the 13th and closed at $181.59. AMD jumped 5.41% and closed at US$184.42, reaching a new closing high since March 18, 2024, ranking among the 30 constituent stocks in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index.
