Thailand’s Chiang Mai Zoo reported that the 21-year-old giant panda Lin Hui who traveled to Thailand unfortunately passed away in the early morning of April 19. According to reports, Thailand purchased death protection insurance for Lin Hui, with a compensation amount of 15 million baht.

According to reports, the giant panda Lin Hui living in Chiang Mai Zoo, Thailand, suddenly fell into a coma at 9:30 pm on April 18. After receiving the information notification from Thailand, the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center immediately organized experts to guide the Thai side in carrying out rescue work through video connections. Although efforts were made to rescue him, his life was ultimately unable to be saved. Lin Hui passed away in the early morning of April 19th, Beijing time, after rescue efforts failed. The specific cause of death needs to be confirmed by further medical examination.

According to a report from China News Network in 2019, Thailand has purchased death protection insurance for giant pandas Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang. No matter what the circumstances, the death of the giant panda will be compensated by the insurance. The compensation amount for each panda is 15 million baht (approximately RMB 3 million).

Lin Hui was born in September 2001 as a female. In 2003, she went to Thailand to carry out Sino-Thailand cooperative research on giant pandas. She has lived in Chiang Mai Zoo, Thailand, for nearly 20 years.

China has clearly requested Thailand to properly seal Lin Hui’s body, and will soon set up a Chinese expert team to go to Thailand as soon as possible to jointly investigate the cause of death with Thai experts, and make every effort to deal with the aftermath.
