Grandma has been feeding stray cats and dogs for 18 years, hoping to raise awareness about animal rights

Zhang Guimei, an 88-year-old grandmother in Puli, Nantou, has been riding a motorcycle to feed stray animals every day for 18 years. She uses her pension and living expenses from her children to buy feed. She hopes to use her own actions to arouse more people to join the ranks of animal protection. Her daughter also helped her grandma set up a Facebook fan page called "Grandma of Stray Cats and Dogs" to share her stories with stray animals. So far, it has accumulated more than 60,000 likes.

Grandma has been involved in animal protection since 1998. She feeds cats and dogs in three periods every day: breakfast, lunch and evening. She goes out at 2 or 3 in the morning, rides her motorcycle along the road to feed stray cats and dogs, and does not return home until after dinner. This has been the same for more than 10 years. In February this year, my grandma collapsed due to overwork. She was found by a nearby store and sent to the hospital for treatment. Her children were very worried about her safety and told her to stop riding bicycles. Now she feeds cats and dogs on foot.

Grandma's family is a "Langlang family". When she was young, she raised several stray dogs. Her son When I was a child, I would take stray cats home to raise them. My daughters-in-law also raised two stray dogs until their old age, and currently have 11 stray cats. The whole family is very supportive of grandma, and will accompany her to care for and feed stray cats and dogs when they have time.

The family helped the grandma set up a Facebook fan page "Grandma of Stray Cats and Dogs", hoping to attract more people to pay attention to animal welfare issues and give stray animals a warm home. Many kind-hearted people learned about Grandma’s good deeds through Facebook and donated money to subsidize Grandma’s purchase of feed. Although the amount was not large, Grandma’s daughter was still very grateful to those who had helped her. In the past few years, Zhang Guimei has been using her pension and living expenses from her son to buy feed, silently doing good deeds without asking for anything in return. She just hopes that these stray animals will not go hungry.
